ALL NEWSQHT Memorial Grounds move into the 21st century
Despite the Covid lock down and unseasonal weather, work has continued at the Memorial Sports Ground to the south of Hartington Road. The new floodlit 3G sports pitches will be a game changer for sports provision within the University as well as providing much needed community sports facilities. These facilities will greatly improve the local provision and offer the wider sports community, an RFU & FA certified all weather full-sized pitch for rugby and football and adjacent training pitch. The development includes a new access, car and coach parking , as well as a new surface and benches along a renovated Thames Path. The Quintin Hogg Trust have recently received planning approval for temporary changing facilities on the site which will enable a safe environment for all users until funding is in place for the consented timber framed sports pavilion and boat house which will form later phases of the project..
The Sports Ground is aiming for a soft opening in July/ August 2021 with all facilities onstream in September in time for the start of the 2021/22 academic year.
In the meantime, the Quintin Boat Club, Kew House School and the University Boat Club are all back and ‘on the water’ – with the Quintin Boat Club, which has been associated with the site since 1875, finally able to fully appreciate the newly refurbished club room.
