Quintin Hogg Memorial Ground Chiswick – Change of leaseholder

02.05.2023

We are delighted to announce that the Trust has found a new tenant for the QH Memorial Ground, the Latymer Foundation at Hammersmith, an educational charity that runs Latymer Upper and Prep Schools who have used the facilities at Chiswick for over 20 years.

The QH Memorial Sports Ground at Chiswick, has been used by the students of the University of Westminster (originally the Regent Street Polytechnic) for some 120 years following the ‘crowed funded’ purchase of the sports grounds in memory of the Victorian philanthropist Quintin Hogg, in 1903. The freehold to the Chiswick Sports Ground remains with the Quintin Hogg Memorial Fund who over this period have leased the use of the grounds to the University of Westminster for use by the University students.

Latymer is committed to investing in the property in a way that will benefit not just its students but all current users and local residents, as well as future generations for many years to come. We are pleased to confirm, that despite transferring their lease interests to Latymer, Westminster University and their Student Union will retain their existing access and will be continuing to use the ground on a regular basis.

A message from Bill Weston, Chair of the Quintin Hogg Memorial Trust: “We are delighted to have found in Latymer a partner for the Memorial Ground whose founding goals and aspirations are so closely aligned to the guiding principles of the QH Memorial Fund. The agreement is another significant step in the redevelopment of the QH Memorial Ground following the successful opening of the Trust’s new River Pitches at Chiswick in September 2021. We look forward to working closely with the Latymer Foundation in this exciting next phase of the development of the Quintin Hogg Memorial Ground”.

Ian Wilmot, COO of the University of Westminster, said: “Chiswick Sports Ground has been part of our university’s heritage for 120 years and over this period has been well used by our many sports societies. We are so glad to have been able to assign our lease to such a collaborative and community driven organisation who we know will be wonderful caretakers of the ground and are grateful to Latymer for the care they have shown in ensuring this lease assignment continues to work for all parties.”

Kieran Murphy, Chair of the Latymer Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have reached this agreement with the Quintin Hogg Memorial Fund and the University of Westminster on the lease of the grounds. Our students have enjoyed using the facilities for more than 20 years and we are committed to investing in improvements to the facilities for the benefit of all existing users and the local community, for many years to come.”
